The identity and access management (IAM) marketplace encompasses a broad range of product types. Most organizations require multiple IAM products, to perform different functions. There are scenarios where two or more products work better when integrated, rather than in isolation. This raises the question: "is it better to procure all IAM products from a single vendor, which offers a suite, or to select individual products based on their merits?"

This document addresses this question.

Organizations consider product suites in order to:

  1. Minimize integration complexity and risk.
  2. Maximize the value of product-specific training -- learn to manage or use one product, easily manage or use another.
  3. Minimize the number of vendors they need to work with.
  4. Increase leverage when negotiating license and other fees.
